Building a Culture of Philanthropy

Over the last year, we have tried to make a coordinated effort throughout our offices to increase our philanthropic efforts by volunteering time in our communities. Houston has had some success and I appreciate everyone who has attended volunteer efforts and assisted in coordination. Last year, North Texas coordinated its first office-wide effort and volunteered at Feed My Starving Children. Two hours of effort from 12 people resulted in over 18,000 meals for their community.  San Antonio and Houston attended Wreaths of Honor last December and laid wreaths on the graves of Veterans.  Houston volunteered at the SPCA, Houston Food Bank, and Teachers Aide in 2022 and received a Presidential Bronze Medal for volunteering with the food bank for over 100 hours in our group.  These achievements are a great start for our companies to build on.

I realize we are all busy with work, families, and personal time, but I would love more of these events to take place throughout the year in each office.  I do realize some of us volunteer outside of work, and if you have an organization you are passionate about this is an opportunity to bring it to everyone’s attention. Personally, I love the Houston Food Bank and take advantage of the opportunity to bring in our group to help our community. Last effort we were even able to bring our families.

Over the next few weeks, someone in each market will start coordinating group efforts for your office. Please show them your support by providing your ideas and giving a couple of hours out of your month to do something great for others.
