October 2025 – EPA reconsiders Dec 31st, 2025, installation compliance date for leftover R-410A inventory of residential and light commercial equipment

In light of supply chain issues, the EPA is proposing to remove the installation compliance date, allowing the continued sell-through of leftover R-410A equipment inventory. The intent is to provide flexibility and give consumers and contractors additional options during the market transition to new refrigerants. Removing this installation compliance date would allow for the installation of leftover R-410A systems, so long as there is inventory left. There is no later compliance date being proposed.

This proposed reconsideration ruling, known as the “TT Rule Reconsideration”,  will be open for public comment until Nov 21st, 2025. Until this reconsideration ruling becomes official and is released by the EPA, the Dec 31st, 2025, compliance date still prevails, meaning there is only a short window left to install R-410A systems. Though inventory levels vary across manufacturers and product types, some manufacturers and reps have quite a bit of R-410A inventory.

Note that this reconsideration rule does not affect VRV/VRF systems 6 Tons and above. Those systems are still within their allowable manufacturing and import window with R-410A until Dec 31st, 2025, with an installation compliance date of Dec 31st, 2026. The Daikin / DXS team did, however, work with this reconsideration rule to lobby for the removal of the VRV/VRF installation date as well. Stay tuned for updates!
